Hello folks,

Hope that you didn’t get hit too hard by Irene! Following please find updates that the Mayor’s Office has asked me to pass along….

“The City of Providence is continuing its cleanup of yesterday’s storm and will continue to remove fallen trees, limbs and branches from roadways as quickly as possible. Initial efforts are to make sure all roads are passable. Crews will begin removing trees from sidewalks and other areas as soon as all roadways are open.

Residents should put tree limbs and branches on the curb for pickup. Branches should be cut and tied into 3-foot bundles for pickup. Please do not put debris back in the roadway and make every effort to keep sidewalks safe and passable.

The City of Providence will announce a schedule of pickup dates in the next day or two.

Downed or damaged trees entangled with utility wires can be deadly and should not be touched. Downed utility wires should be reported to the Fire Department at 274-3344.

Property owners should not attempt to move large trees, and should take all other precautions to avoid injury during cleanup.

The City will only pick up storm-related tree debris. Tree limbs and branches that are mixed with construction debris, garbage or any other household refuse will not be removed.

Property owners will be fined if they place construction debris on the curb for pick-up.

The City is only responsible for trees on public property and for yard debris that is bundled and left curbside. Large trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. Property owners who hire a contractor to remove trees and limbs should make sure the contractor is a licensed, bonded professional to avoid injury and damage to property.

Renters with fallen trees or other storm debris that has not been cleared from private property are encouraged to contact their landlord and request that immediate action be taken. Renters whose landlord will not remove storm-related debris from their property should call the Office of Neighborhood Services at 421-CITY(2489) to request an inspection.

Please also call the Office of Neighborhood Services if you need assistance recovering from the storm.

Providence officials are working closely with National Grid to restore power throughout the city, and crews are deployed throughout the city to remove downed trees and limbs and return the city to normal activity as soon as possible. Storm recovery will continue for days and weeks.

Please note that downed trees that are in or around wires cannot be moved until National Grid has confirmed that wires are safe.

Residents with questions can call the Office of Neighborhood Services at 401-421-2489.”

Greetings everyone!

-Hopefully we won’t be hit very hard by the hurricane! Below please find information sent from the Mayor’s Office. FYI, the City’s website is www.providenceri.com, the number to call if you have any questions is 421-2489.

-Our next EC&G meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7pm at PC. Room number and agenda to follow. Please mark your calendars!

-Sadly had to cancel our Fargnoli Park Farmers’ Market for Sunday but hope you will support our local farmers and businesses and stop by next week. As always, fun activities for the kids! Fargnoli Park, Smith St. between Academy and River Avenues, Sundays from 11am-2pm through Oct. 30th.

-We are ALWAYS looking for volunteers! Please let us know if you can lend a hand. For instance, one of our members was able to secure additional trees from the PNPP/City for planting this October and could use help. Dates and further information will be posted on our website and Facebook.

-Good news! The Pleasant Valley Parkway will receive some much needed improvements next Spring. Sections of the Parkway will be changed back to one-way and the dangerous intersections will be re-configured. Thanks to Council President Solomon and the neighbors who have been working on this project for several years now.

-A reminder that we work very closely with Lt. Reddy and Lt. Gannon on safety/crime issues and partner with Susan DeRita who started and manages a neighborhood crime watch group. If you would like to be added to Susan’s email notification list or have any questions, please contact Susan at susan.derita@cox.net.

-Don’t forget to check back with us for updates – either here or on Facebook…and please remember to ‘like’ us!

Stay dry and safe folks!

Best wishes,

Robin
