Preview Of Tomorrow’s Farmers’ Market!

Tomorrow at the Market our kid’s activity will be making bird feeders from recycled materials! Becky, our resident RISD grad in Illustration, will be working with the children. Becky also designed our flyer this season and has worked on various children’s projects and activities in the past such as the mural and artwork in Davis Park. Thanks to Becky!

Don’t forget that our Oakdale Farm sells beautiful, fresh and organic produce, herbs and fruit. Herb plants too!

Frey Florist will be back with gorgeous cut flowers and potted plants. Robin does a great job while Richard takes a well deserved vacation.

For your grilling this summer, PineView Farm has grass and grain fed meats such as kielbasa, authentic german knackwurst and bratwurst and two types of hot dogs. Also free range cornish hens, geese, duck and turkey…who knew?

Everyone was asking for Providence Juice last week…Josie and Jay finally took their honeymoon! They will be back tomorrow…yea!

Stop by to see Louise and try her delicious home-made green relish, jams and jellies. Nothing like home-made!

For unusual, hard to find micro greens, DuTemple Farm is the place to shop! David’s produce flies off the shelves! Stop by and say hello and hear about his new business.

Of course LaSalle Bakery will be back selling their wonderful bread and pastries…and iced coffee which has been a big hit on these hot days!

Sadly, this Sunday will be our last Farmers’ Market for the season!

This will be your last opportunity to pick up locally grown organic produce and home made baked goods from Oakdale Farm, raw honey products from Fruit Hill Apiaries, organic juice, smoothies and hot cider from Providence Juice, hand made organic granola from Providence Granola, home made jams, preserves and relish from Ma Davis’, fresh cut flowers from Frey Florist and unusual succulent plants from Wedgewood Greenhouse.

Hope to see you and the family on Sunday as we wrap up and say goodbye for the season! Again the market is at Davis Park, at the corner of Chalkstone and Raymond Sts., from 11am-2pm.

We are excited to have several new vendors joining us at our Farmers’ Market. Providence Granola and Providence Juice have started and next week Cup ‘N Rol, with delicious cupcakes and coffee, will be starting. These are all new Providence businesses folks – please check them out on line to learn more about the good work that they are doing and come down to meet and support them…and of course to sample their delicious wares!

Our market is going strong with over 200 people visiting each market. We have a few new vendors starting soon…Ma Davis’ Preserves and Providence Granola tomorrow and Providence Juice the following week. Oakdale Farm, our organic farmer, has been a big hit. Frey Florist will be back tomorrow and we will also have the Mt. Pleasant Library selling tees and used books and Lead Safe Kids to talk about lead poisoning and measures to prevent and remediate.

Come join the fun and support our local farmers and businesses. Bring the family – there is a playground and plenty of room for the kids to run around. See you Sundays from 11am-2pm through October 31st.

FAMILY FUN DAY & FARMERS’ MARKET !!!

Our 1st Family Fun Day in conjuction with our Farmers’ Market will be held this Sunday, August 1 from 11am-2pm at Davis Park. The YMCA will be there with their ‘Y on the Move’, a 35′ inflatable obstacle course. There is a new playground and basketball court for the kids and we will also have face painting.

While at the Park, shop for your fresh, local produce, herbs, flowers and plants!

The Farmers’ Market will be running every Sunday from 11-2pm through Halloween and we will have a Family Fun Day once a month with activities for the kids. Come out and support our local farmers!

EARTH DAY EVENT SAT. 4/24

Next Saturday, April 24 we are holding our annual Earth Day event in conjunction with PC’s Service Day. We are very pleased that along with PC students we will be joined by a group of JWU students. All volunteers are welcome – come for as long as you can – even an hour will help!

9:00 am - Meet at Davis Park. Coffee and snack provided.
9:15 am – Register, get assignment and t-shirt (first 125 volunteers).
10: 00 am – With ‘group leaders’, depart to project location
12:00 noon – Finish up. Lunch will be provided at Davis Park.

Our projects include painting the concession stand, bleachers and benches, and cleaning up Davis Park and cleaning certain areas of Elmhurst and Smith Hill. Unfortunately we cannot complete the tasks that we had scheduled for Fargnoli Park as it is opening day for baseball, but hope to do so in the near future.

FARMERS’ MARKET

We are very excited to announce that we are holding our 2nd annual Farmers’ Market at Davis Park beginning Sunday July 11 through Sunday October 31. Our times have changed….we will be beginning at 11:00am and running until 2:00pm. Several of the vendors will be returning including Schartner Farm, Mazie’s Organic Catering and Fruit Hill Apiaries to name a few, plus many new vendors.

New this year will be Family Fun Days, held once a month during the markets, the first scheduled for July 11. FFD’s will include music, kid’s activities and lots of surprises.

CELEBRATE EARTH DAY WITH US!

We are holding our annual Earth Day celebration event on Saturday, April 24th from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome! Any time that you can commit would be great…even an hour would help. Joining us once again will be the fantastic students from Providence College!

We’ll be cleaning up sections of some of the major streets such as Smith, Oakland, Chalkstone and Convent, priming the concession stand at Davis Park and planting some shrubs, trees and flowers.

If you can’t make it this time, please consider going out on your own at some point to pick up some trash or whatever else you can do to improve our parks and neighborhood!
